The Beautiful Bump

There is nothing more beautiful than a woman with child, unless you saw me when I was 7 months with my kankles, greasy hair, black eyes, random blotches crazy hyper pigmentation and attractive limp from SPD, I digress.

Josie is the perfect pregnant lady and how I’m sure we would all love to look like during that final trimester. Now for those who have been through these 9 months of bliss, torture or both, depending on how your pregnancy went, you will know that skin can be a problem. We all seem to have different side effects ranging from skin rashes, blemishes, pigmentation changes and of course pale-itis (a condition I lovingly made up meaning lack of spray tans and sunshine). But who needs that promised “glow” when we have clever cosmetics to bring the myth to reality.

Firstly I applied Charlotte Tilbury's Wonderglow. A clever light diffusing product that gives the skin luminosity and disguises sleep deprived skin leaving it radiant. The next step and such a key one to creating flawless skin is to colour correct. On this shoot I colour corrected using Makeup Forever Camouflage Cream Pot in mint green on the red areas (green counteracts any redness so great for break outs or rosacea). I then used a dab of MAC orange corrector under the eyes just to hide the blue areas that can be brought on by sleepless nights. To even up the skin tone, I love to use Clinique Even Better, it particularly works well on skin pigmentation which can be brought on through pregnancy and has an added SPF which helps to decrease the chances of it worsening. treat areas of the face differently for example if your forehead is slightly darker than the rest due to pigmentation, mix in a darker foundation that you have in the cupboard from those summer months and apply accordingly. not too much, we don't want to look crazy, but enough to even the skin. pigmentation can look worse if the foundation is too light. I then concealed any areas that needed a bit more than the foundation using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.

To conceal further under the eyes where necessary, I used my trusted Touché Veloutee, an absolute must for those with dark circles under the eyes. Made by Terry Terry Gunzburg who is the wonder woman behind YSL's infamous Touché Éclat and has now established her own brand, the price is high, but I have yet to find a better under eye concealer that doesn't get crease or look heavy. A touch of Dior skin flash in 01 to brighten above cheek bones, on brow bone and inner corner of the eye to give the illusion of a full 10 hours sleep. Finally I enhanced her cheek bones with Mac Sculpting Powder. I gave Josie a very soft eye using browns and neutrals from my new Smashbox palette, added a slightly winged lash for a touch of glam and hey presto you have natural a glowing beautiful mum to be.
